Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has publicly honoured her late husband, Prince Henry Oduwole, on what would have been their 32nd wedding anniversary, reflecting on their enduring love and his impact on their family. The tribute highlights the personal side of a prominent public figure.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti marked what would have been her 32nd wedding anniversary with her late husband, Prince Henry Oduwole, on Thursday, October 2, 2025. In an emotional post on her official X account, Governor Ndeti described the deep bond and commitment they shared.
“Today marks 32 years since I got married to the love of my life, my dear husband, the late Prince Henry Oduwole,” she wrote, emphasising his significant role in her life and the lives of their children.
Prince Henry Oduwole, a Nigerian national, passed away on September 25, 2016, at Nairobi Hospital after suffering a sudden and severe rise in blood pressure. He had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. According to Wavinya's elder brother, Raphael Musyoki, Prince Oduwole had been in and out of hospital since March of that year, including visits to Matter Hospital, Nairobi Hospital, and London.
The couple met in London while Ndeti was studying in the UK and courted for six years before marrying on October 2, 1992. They had agreed to settle in Kenya, a country Prince Oduwole reportedly loved. He was buried on the Ndeti family farm in accordance with his wishes and family consultations.
Governor Ndeti's public commemoration resonates with her family and the people of Machakos County, where she serves as the second Governor. Her tribute underscores the personal challenges faced by public figures, often balancing private grief with public duties.
While the governor's post is a personal reflection, analysts suggest that such public expressions from prominent political figures can influence public perception and debate, particularly concerning their personal resilience and connection with the electorate. The transparency in sharing personal milestones, even those tinged with sadness, can foster a deeper understanding between leaders and citizens.
The governor's continued public engagement on personal matters, alongside her official duties, will likely be observed for its impact on her public image and political narrative. Her administration's focus on development projects and revenue collection remains a key area of public interest.
