In a fiery speech, Rigathi Gachagua accused President Ruto and his aides of financing youth to violently disrupt his Meru rallies, a plan he claims backfired when the youths began chanting anti-Ruto slogans.
Meru County, Kenya – Kenya’s political landscape was rocked this weekend as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua launched an extraordinary attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of orchestrating violent disruptions at his political rallies in Meru County.
Addressing a packed congregation at a church in Rwarera, Gachagua alleged that President Ruto’s close allies — including Interior CS Kithure Kindiki — were funneling cash to local youths with instructions to disrupt his events, burn property, and intimidate supporters. The claims, delivered with fiery conviction, have deepened fears of a full-blown political schism within the ruling coalition.
“They sent money to young men to cause chaos — but instead, these same young men joined us and shouted down the President,” Gachagua declared, adding that Ruto had “betrayed the Mount Kenya region” and would “never be forgiven” by voters who propelled him to power.
The embattled former DP also accused the state of coercing church leaders into denying him platforms, labeling it “the highest form of dictatorship”. His speech was met with cheers from the congregation, many of whom appeared to support his call for Mount Kenya’s political autonomy.
This latest outburst marks the clearest indication yet of a terminal fracture within the Kenya Kwanza alliance, with Gachagua now openly championing a one-term presidency for Ruto. Political analysts warn that the escalating feud could reshape the 2027 electoral landscape, especially in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region, long seen as a critical bloc in national politics.
Neither President Ruto nor Interior CS Kindiki has officially responded to the allegations. However, sources within State House have privately dismissed Gachagua’s claims as “desperate theatrics” intended to distract from his own waning influence.
With the political temperature rising, all eyes are now on how the President’s inner circle will respond — and whether the Mount Kenya rebellion will coalesce into a formidable opposition force ahead of the next election cycle.
