A 44-year-old former police officer has been arrested in Nairobi’s Pipeline estate after allegedly murdering his 27-year-old wife, Susan Nabwire, and brutally attacking the family’s househelp in a shocking case of domestic violence.
Nairobi, Kenya – A Nairobi family is seeking justice after a horrific domestic attack in the Pipeline estate left a 27-year-old mother dead and another woman seriously injured. Susan Nabwire, mother of a one-year-old child, was allegedly murdered on the night of August 13 by her husband, a 44-year-old former police officer. The man is also accused of turning on the family’s househelp, whom he brutally assaulted and raped during the same incident.
According to Nabwire’s mother, trouble began when the husband came home in a rage, accusing Susan of infidelity. He demanded her phone and mobile money PIN, growing more agitated as the night went on. In the early hours of the morning, the househelp recounted, the ex-officer retrieved an axe from the bathroom. Without warning, he struck Susan in the neck and head with the axe, then strangled her with a rope. “He said he would kill her as she watched,” the househelp later told police, describing how the man also stabbed Susan in the eyes in a frenzied attack.
After hiding his wife’s lifeless body under a bed, the assailant locked the househelp and the toddler in the home and fled with the victims’ phones. The next day, neighbors alerted authorities after sensing something was wrong. Police forced entry, found Susan’s body, and rushed the injured househelp to hospital. A manhunt for the suspect ensued and culminated in his arrest on August 23. He was taken into custody at Embakasi Police Station.
The former police officer is expected to face multiple charges, including murder, sexual assault, and child endangerment. The gruesome case has drawn public outrage and renewed calls for vigilance on domestic violence. Family and friends are mourning Susan Nabwire, as legal proceedings begin against the suspect. Police spokespersons have reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence and vowed to ensure the perpetrator is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
