DCI officers arrested four men stealing bags of lentils from a warehouse in Nairobi’s Embakasi and also announced busting a livestock theft cartel across several counties in an ongoing crackdown on organised theft.
Nairobi, Kenya – Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested four men accused of stealing bags of lentils from a warehouse in Embakasi.
Acting on a public tip-off, officers stormed the warehouse and found the suspects loading sacks of lentils onto a lorry. The men were arrested on the spot and transferred to a police station as detectives prepared evidence for prosecution. They are expected to face theft charges in court.
DCI officials credited the success of the operation to close collaboration between Embakasi Sub-County officers and the Nairobi area command, noting that community vigilance was crucial in preventing what could have been a major loss of goods.
In a parallel operation, detectives arrested eight more suspects in Kirinyaga, Nairobi and Machakos counties linked to a livestock theft network. Those arrested included thieves, buyers, transporters and butchers accused of working together to steal cattle and goats from farmers.
The DCI said dismantling the cartel was part of a broader effort to curb rampant stock theft that has devastated rural households and caused significant economic losses in farming communities.
Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and report suspicious activity involving stolen goods or livestock. Investigations into both the Embakasi warehouse theft and the livestock syndicate are ongoing, with more arrests expected as detectives pursue additional suspects.
