Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has come out swinging against tabloids, categorically denying reports that star midfielder Cole Palmer is "homesick" and plotting a return to Manchester.
The rumor mill went into overdrive this week with claims that the 23-year-old, who has been a rare bright spark at Stamford Bridge, was unsettled in London. Rosenior, however, dismissed the speculation as "ridiculous," insisting the England international is happy and central to the Blues' long-term project.
"I have had numerous conversations with Cole," Rosenior told reporters ahead of the clash with Crystal Palace. "He is very, very happy to be here. He is a huge part of our plans. These rumors are just noise."
The speculation stems from Palmer’s recent dip in form, which Rosenior attributed to fitness issues rather than a desire to leave. "He was frustrated in the Brentford game because he was in pain, not because he hates London," the coach explained. Palmer, a lifelong Manchester United fan who joined from City, has been Chelsea’s talisman, scoring 38 goals in 63 appearances.
For the thousands of Chelsea fans in Kenya, the reassurance is welcome. The "Blue Army" in Nairobi has embraced Palmer as the heir to Eden Hazard. "We cannot lose our best player," said a fan at a Nairobi sports bar. "If Palmer goes, we are finished."
With the transfer window shut and the coach firm, the "homesick" narrative appears to be dead in the water. Palmer stays, and Chelsea fights on.
