Kakamega Homeboyz defender Silas Abungana is dead after being allegedly killed by his brother in a dispute over land and his wife, sparking a police manhunt.

Kenyan football is in mourning after a Kakamega Homeboyz defender was brutally bludgeoned to death, allegedly by his own brother, in a dispute over land and love.
Silas Abungana, a rising star in the Kenya Premier League, has played his final match. The 25-year-old defender died on Wednesday, February 4, at the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he was fighting for his life after a vicious domestic assault. The suspect is not a stranger, but his younger brother, Denmark Muchiti, who is now on the run.
The tragedy unfolded on Tuesday night at the family’s rural home. According to the player's father, Chiroi Abungana, a heated argument erupted between the siblings. The dispute reportedly centered on two volatile issues: a disagreement over a parcel of family land and the family's disapproval of Silas's wife.
Kakamega Homeboyz Chairman Cleophas Shimanyula expressed his devastation, calling for immediate justice. "We have lost a disciplined and talented player," Shimanyula said. "It is painful that his life was taken by someone who should have protected him. We urge the police to track down the suspect."
As the manhunt for Denmark Muchiti intensifies, the Abungana family is left to grapple with a double tragedy: the death of one son and the monstrous actions of another. For the Homeboyz fans, the number 31 jersey will now be a symbol of a talent gone too soon.
