The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is the monumental state parastatal and official custodian mandated to manage and protect Uganda’s 10 national parks and 12 wildlife reserves. These funds form the absolute backbone of Uganda’s tourism foreign exchange, driving thousands of jobs in the guiding, logistical, and hospitality sectors while funding the paramilitary ranger forces that secure the borders of the parks. Beyond resource management, UWA operates with a profound commitment to community synergy through its Revenue Sharing Scheme, where 20% of all park gate fees are funneled directly into local development projects in neighboring villages. This initiative aggressively funds rural schools, clinics, and clean water projects, mitigating human-wildlife conflict and ensuring that conservation serves as a primary vehicle for poverty alleviation in Uganda.
