TPC Limited is one of the oldest, most successful, and highly mechanized sugar estates in Tanzania, located in the fertile volcanic plains south of Mount Kilimanjaro in Moshi. Originally established in the 1930s, the estate was successfully privatized and is currently managed by the Mauritian-based Alteo Group, operating as a prime example of agricultural revitalization and industrial efficiency in East Africa. The company operates a massive 16,000-hectare estate, cultivating high-yield sugarcane utilizing highly advanced, computer-controlled drip and pivot irrigation systems. During the harvest, the factory’s high-capacity milling complex runs around the clock, producing over 100,000 tonnes of premium, direct-consumption white and brown sugar annually, significantly bridging the domestic sugar deficit in Tanzania. Beyond sugar production, TPC is an absolute pioneer in renewable energy. The factory operates a highly efficient biomass cogeneration plant that utilizes sugarcane bagasse to produce clean electricity, not only powering the entire industrial estate but also exporting surplus energy to the TANESCO national grid. The company also heavily funds local community welfare, maintaining schools, a hospital, and extensive road networks in the Kilimanjaro region.
