TAZAMA Pipelines Limited (Tanzania Zambia Mafuta) is a highly strategic, bi-national corporate entity owned jointly by the Governments of Zambia and Tanzania. Established in 1968, the company operates a monumental 1,710-kilometer energy pipeline that runs from the deep-water port of Dar es Salaam directly to the Indeni Petroleum Refinery in Ndola, Zambia, serving as the absolute energy lifeline for the landlocked Zambian economy. The pipeline is a marvel of heavy engineering, traversing the treacherous Southern Highlands of Tanzania, crossing the Great Rift Valley, and utilizing a highly sophisticated network of massive pumping stations to move thousands of tons of petroleum products uphill.
