Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited (SCOUL), situated in Lugazi, is a monumental agro-industrial complex and a flagship enterprise of the Mehta Group. The company operates a highly advanced, high-capacity mill that produces thousands of tons of premium white and brown sugar daily for the domestic and regional markets. SCOUL is a pioneer in circular industrial practices, utilizing sugarcane bagasse to co-generate renewable green electricity, which powers the entire Lugazi industrial complex and exports a significant surplus to the national grid, enhancing Uganda’s energy stability. SCOUL is the absolute economic heartbeat of the Buikwe district. The corporation provides direct employment to over 7,000 workers and sustains an expansive network of independent out-grower farmers. Through the Mehta Foundation, the company operates world-class schools, a community hospital, and extensive environmental conservation programs within the Mabira forest ecosystem, cementing its role as a leader in sustainable agribusiness.
