The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is a monumental, wholly state-owned utility responsible for providing water and sewerage services in all major urban centers across Uganda. Established in 1972, NWSC has transformed into one of Africa’s most efficient and self-sustaining public utilities, renowned globally for its innovative management practices and rapid infrastructure expansion. The corporation operates massive, high-tech water treatment plants, most notably the Ggaba and Katosi complexes on the shores of Lake Victoria, which supply millions of liters of clean water daily to the Greater Kampala area. NWSC manages a vast subterranean network of pipes and modern sewerage systems, ensuring public health and environmental safety in Uganda’s rapidly urbanizing cities and towns. NWSC is a pioneer in digital utility management within East Africa. They have implemented a highly efficient e-billing system and the "NWSC Mobile" app, allowing millions of customers to check accounts and pay bills via mobile money (MTN MoMo, Airtel Money). Their commitment to the "Water for All" mandate has seen them extend service to over 250 towns, making them the absolute backbone of Uganda’s urban health and industrial productivity.
