The National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) is an incredibly strategic, highly diversified state-owned corporation that operates as the official commercial and industrial arm of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF). NEC Construction Works & Engineering is a dominant Tier 1 contractor, heavily utilized by the state for building national infrastructure, hospitals, and railways. In the FMCG sector, their subsidiary NEC Uzima produces "Uzima Water," one of the most widely consumed and highly trusted purified mineral water brands in Uganda. Beyond construction and FMCG, NEC manages Luwero Industries, a high-security complex manufacturing ammunition, explosives, and undertaking the critical repair of military hardware. They also operate massive agricultural mechanization projects (NEC Tractor Project) and joint ventures in pharmaceuticals.
