Mohamed Said Chute is a prominent Kenyan politician and businessman currently serving as the Senator for Marsabit County. He was elected to the Senate of Kenya during the August 2022 general elections on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, a key component of the Kenya Kwanza coalition. His tenure in the 13th Parliament marks his first time serving in the national legislature, where he has focused on issues concerning devolution, regional integration, and national cohesion. Born and raised in Marsabit County, Chute pursued his early education within the region, attending Marsabit Primary School between 1968 and 1977 before moving on to Moyale Boys High School, where he completed his secondary education in 1977. In 2001, he obtained a private pilot license from the Kenya School of Flying. Later, he pursued higher education, graduating with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Cumbria in 2021. He gained experience as a civil servant, notably serving at the National Police Service Commission, which provided him with insight into the workings of government institutions. Simultaneously, he developed a significant footprint in the business sector in Northern Kenya. His business portfolio includes serving as the Managing Director and Chairman of Blue Nile East Africa Ltd since 1996, and acting as the CEO of Blue Nile Aviation between 2002 and 2007. Additionally, he has held the position of Chairperson for Midrock Water Drilling Company Ltd since 2006, a role that involved engaging with infrastructure and service delivery challenges within his home county. In the 2022 general elections, Chute successfully contested the Marsabit County senatorial seat. He serves as the Chairperson of the Senate’s Standing Committee on National Cohesion, Equal Opportunity, and Regional Integration.
