Enoch Kiio Wambua (born 31 October 1972) is a Kenyan politician and journalist who currently serves as the Senator for Kitui County. A member of the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya (WDM-K), a constituent party of the Azimio La Umoja coalition, Wambua has established himself as a prominent figure in Kitui County politics and a notable legislator in the Senate of Kenya. Born and raised in Kitui County, Wambua pursued higher education at Moi University, where he earned a Bachelor of Education in English Literature between 1992 and 1996. Following his undergraduate studies, he furthered his academic and professional qualifications, obtaining a Diploma in Planning and Management of Development Studies from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in 1997. He later expanded his expertise in communications, completing a Certificate in Mass Communication from the Union of African Journalists in 2001, and a Postgraduate Diploma in American Studies at Smith College in Massachusetts, USA, which he pursued between 2007 and 2008. Before his entry into active politics, Wambua had a distinguished career in the Kenyan media industry. He began his professional journey in October 1999 as a trainee sub-editor at Kenya Times Media, where he remained until 2005. In May 2005, he joined the Nation Media Group, working as a sub-editor and later as an associate editor. His career trajectory continued to ascend in 2013 when he joined The Standard Group. During his tenure at The Standard, he served as a managing editor and later as a senior editor, holding significant editorial responsibilities and championing ethical journalism until his resignation in 2016 to pursue elective politics. Wambua’s transition to the political sphere proved successful during the 2017 Kenyan general election, when he secured the Kitui County Senate seat on a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket, succeeding the incumbent David Musila. In the Senate, he quickly became an active legislator known for his focus on devolution, county resource allocation, and governance reforms. His performance and advocacy for his constituents led to his re-election in the 2022 general election, where he secured a second consecutive term. During his tenure in the Senate, Wambua has served on several key legislative bodies, including the Senate County Public Accounts Committee and the Senate Roads, Transportation and Housing Committee. His legislative work has often been characterized by his efforts to influence agricultural and local development policies, notably through his sponsorship of the Mung Beans Bill in 2022, which sought to regulate the sector and enhance the livelihoods of local farmers. As of 2026, Wambua remains an influential voice in the Senate, continuing to advocate for his constituents and engaging in the national discourse on Kenyan governance, with public reports indicating his stated intention to seek the Kitui gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
