The Government has come out fighting against critics questioning East Africa’s readiness to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). In a stern rebuttal, the Ministry of Sports has dismissed claims of poor infrastructure as "baseless pessimism," insisting the region is on track to deliver a world-class tournament.
With the spotlight turning to Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania after the conclusion of the 2025 edition in Morocco, anxiety has been mounting over the pace of construction at key venues like the Talanta Sports City and the renovations at Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums. Critics argue that the sluggish start mirrors previous failed bids, but officials are adamant: the bulldozers are moving, and the deadlines will be met.
"This is not just about football; it is about legacy," a Ministry spokesperson declared. The Pamoja Bid was sold on the promise of transforming the region's sporting hardware. The government points to ongoing works and committed budgetary allocations as proof of political will.
