Former Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri has warned that political fragmentation in Mt Kenya threatens the region's bargaining power, urging leaders to tolerate diverse views.
In a region often defined by intense political homogeneity, Peter Ndambiri is calling for a truce. The former Deputy Governor has stepped into the heated debate about the mountain's political future, arguing that the current "civil war" between government loyalists and opposition figures is self-defeating.
Speaking during an interview on Kameme TV, Ndambiri criticized the growing intolerance that has seen political offices defaced and leaders heckled. He argued that the region's strength has always been its numbers, and splitting those numbers along petty party lines weakens everyone.
"If you don't want Ruto, it is okay to stay in the opposition," Ndambiri reasoned. [...](asc_slot://start-slot-13)"But allow the person who wants to work with Ruto to sell their agenda. We cannot build a future on intolerance."
His comments come at a time when the region is grappling with its identity in the post-2022 political landscape. With shifting alliances and the emergence of new power brokers, Ndambiri's message strikes a chord with those weary of the constant infighting.
"Let someone sell their agenda," he concluded. "Ultimately, unity is our only currency."
