A former aide to cult leader Paul Mackenzie turns state witness, offering crucial evidence on the Shakahola massacre in exchange for a plea bargain.

The prosecution’s case against cult leader Paul Mackenzie has received a massive shot in the arm. A key co-accused, previously part of Mackenzie’s inner circle, has formally applied to enter a plea bargain, offering to testify against the "messiah" of Shakahola in exchange for a lighter sentence.
The suspect, whose identity is protected by the court for security reasons, was reportedly instrumental in enforcing the starvation orders that led to the deaths of over 400 followers. In a closed-door session at the Mombasa High Court, the prosecution revealed that the defector is ready to provide "insider details" on the command structure and the burial sites that are yet to be discovered.
This development is a nightmare for Mackenzie’s defense. Until now, the cult leader has maintained a facade of innocence, claiming he never forced anyone to fast. However, the witness is expected to narrate how Mackenzie allegedly vetted followers, confiscated their phones, and issued specific timelines for "transitioning" to heaven through starvation.
"The witness has detailed maps of the forest and names of the enforcers who beat those who tried to break the fast," a source within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) leaked. "This testimony connects the dots from the pulpit to the graves."
