The era of the P1 certificate is officially over. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has enforced strict new entry standards for primary school teachers, demanding a Diploma and higher KCSE grades to align with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
For school leavers aspiring to join the noble profession, the bar has been raised. The Teachers Service Commission has fully transitioned to the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), rendering the old P1 certificate obsolete for new registrants. This shift is designed to produce a "CBC-compliant" teacher capable of facilitating learning rather than just delivering content.
