Lindsey Halligan, a Trump appointee with no prosecutorial experience, resigns as US Attorney after judges rule her appointment unlawful and dismiss her politically charged cases.

Lindsey Halligan, the controversial Trump-appointed prosecutor dubbed the "President’s Avenger," has resigned from the US Justice Department after federal judges declared her tenure a "charade" and threatened her with disciplinary action.
Her exit marks a spectacular collapse for a legal campaign seen by critics as the weaponization of the American justice system. Halligan, who had no prior prosecutorial experience before being handpicked by President Trump, led the aggressive but ultimately failed indictments against political heavyweights James Comey and Letitia James.
The breaking point came when US District Judge David Novak ordered Halligan to stop using the title "United States Attorney," stating she had "no legal basis" to hold the office. Her interim appointment had expired, and her continued presence was ruled a violation of the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.
During her brief four-month stint in the Eastern District of Virginia, Halligan broke norms by targeting the President’s perceived enemies with speed that alarmed career prosecutors. Her departure leaves a vacuum and a series of legal questions about the validity of every case she touched.
"She was a soldier sent to do a political hit job, not a lawyer sent to do justice," said a source within the DOJ. As Halligan clears her desk, the cases against Comey and James—dismissed by courts as "vindictive"—stand as monuments to a failed experiment in politicized prosecution.
