President Ruto pledges to build a sports academy in every constituency, aiming to professionalize talent identification and turn sports into a viable economic engine for youth.

President William Ruto has unveiled an ambitious plan to decentralize sports development, pledging to establish a sports academy in each of Kenya's 290 constituencies.
Speaking during a development tour, the Head of State emphasized that talent is Kenya’s "new gold." The initiative aims to move beyond the traditional reliance on Rift Valley runners and Nyanza footballers, creating a structured pathway for youth in every corner of the nation to monetize their skills.
The academies will focus on identifying talent at a tender age (Under-15) and providing professional coaching and facilities closer to home.
While the vision is grand, the hurdle lies in execution. Previous promises of "stadiums in six months" remain unfulfilled in many counties. For this to work, it requires not just concrete, but curriculum and qualified personnel. If achieved, it could revolutionize Kenyan sports forever.
