Sports Registrar Rose Wasike has stepped in to oversee Cricket Kenya’s disputed special general meeting, urging compliance with sports regulations and inviting government observers to defuse turf wars between rival factions.
Nairobi, Kenya – September 21, 2025 (EAT).
The escalating leadership wrangles at Cricket Kenya have prompted Sports Registrar Rose Wasike to take direct control, with her office set to supervise a Special General Meeting (SGM) and enforce compliance with Kenya’s sports laws.
In a letter dated September 15, 2025 and made public on September 19, Wasike confirmed she and her team would attend the SGM to ensure transparent elections and adherence to Sports Registrar regulations.
Board chair Manoj Patel has scheduled the SGM for September 21, 2025.
CEO Ronald Bukusi’s faction insists the meeting should instead be held on October 19, 2025.
The Sports Ministry has been invited as observers to reinforce government oversight.
Wasike’s intervention comes amid fears of further fragmentation in a federation already divided over governance issues and commercial interests.
The infighting coincides with Cricket Kenya’s plans to launch a multi-million-shilling T20 league backed by the Arena of Sports, a project strongly opposed by one faction.
Analysts say the outcome of the SGMs could:
Reshape Cricket Kenya’s leadership structure
Decide whether the T20 league proceeds as planned
Influence Kenya’s participation in future international tournaments
The Sports Registrar’s move highlights:
Increased state oversight in sports federations
Efforts to curb mismanagement and enforce compliance
A push to ensure sports bodies follow transparent electoral processes
Wasike’s office has recently stepped into other federations facing similar governance crises, signalling a broader crackdown on sports mismanagement.
