Lured by the promise of jobs, 15 women found themselves trapped in a living hell of debt bondage and sexual exploitation in the holiday resort of Mallorca.

Spanish police have shattered a sophisticated human trafficking network run by the notorious "Tian Xia She" triad, freeing 15 Chinese women who were being held in "conditions of slavery" on the sun-drenched island of Mallorca.
This raid peels back the glamour of the European tourist trade to reveal a dark underbelly of exploitation. The victims, saddled with impossible debts of up to KES 3 million (€20,000), were forced to service clients 24/7, their passports confiscated and their dignity stripped away. It is a grim reminder that modern slavery is hiding in plain sight.
The investigation revealed a harrowing journey. The women were lured from China with promises of high-paying jobs in Europe. Instead, they were smuggled through the "Western Balkan route"—a notorious corridor for human cargo—before being imprisoned in brothels in Spain. The gang operated with military precision, moving victims between cities to evade detection.
"They were treated like cattle," said a police spokesperson. "If they refused a client, they were beaten. If they tried to leave, their families back home were threatened."
The operation is a major victory for Europol, but it is just the tip of the iceberg. Thousands of women remain trapped in similar networks across the continent. For the 15 survivors, however, today marks the first day of freedom.
"They came for a better life, but found only chains," a victim advocate stated. "Today, the chains are broken, but the scars will last a lifetime."
