Cold Solutions Kiambu secures Sh2.47 billion funding from Mirova to construct a state-of-the-art cold storage facility at Tatu City, aiming to slash post-harvest losses and boost food security.

The fight against post-harvest losses in Kenya has received a multi-billion shilling shot in the arm. Logistics powerhouse Cold Solutions Kiambu (SEZ) Limited has secured a staggering Sh2.47 billion (USD 19 million) funding injection from Mirova, a sustainable investment affiliate of Natixis. This massive capital inflow is set to revolutionize how Kenya handles its food, from the farm gate to the supermarket shelf.
The investment is earmarked for the company’s flagship facility at Tatu City, a Special Economic Zone that is fast becoming the industrial heart of East Africa. Cold Solutions is not just building a warehouse; they are constructing a fortress against food insecurity. With 15,000 pallet positions, this facility will be the largest and most advanced of its kind in the region.
Kenya loses up to 40% of its agricultural produce before it ever reaches the consumer, a tragedy caused by a lack of proper storage. Cold Solutions is deploying "Agri-solar" technology to plug this leak. The Tatu City facility will integrate rooftop solar systems and ammonia-based refrigeration, ensuring that the cold chain is both unbreakable and green.
Mirova’s decision to pour billions into a Kenyan logistics firm is a resounding vote of confidence in the country’s strategic importance as a regional hub. "This investment accelerates our development of energy-efficient infrastructure," the company stated. It signals that despite economic headwinds, smart capital is still finding a home in Kenya’s real economy.
For the mango farmer in Ukambani and the dairy farmer in Githunguri, this Sh2.4 billion facility is not just concrete and steel—it is the bridge between their hard work and a fair paycheck. The era of rotting harvests may finally be coming to an end.
