The Assistant Inspector General, who once battled his way back to the force after a contentious vetting dismissal, was pronounced dead on arrival at a Nandi hospital.

The quiet dawn in Kabutie Village, Nandi County, was shattered on Saturday when Philip Kipchirchir Tuimur, a high-ranking Assistant Inspector General (AIG) stationed at the nerve center of Kenya’s police service, suddenly collapsed and died.
Tuimur’s unexpected passing at his rural home sends shockwaves through Vigilance House, removing a seasoned commander from the headquarters' strategic hierarchy. His death marks the abrupt end of a career defined as much by its longevity as by the resilience required to survive the service's rigorous vetting purges.
According to a police report filed at Kapsabet Police Station, the incident occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. EAT. The senior officer was at his residence in Kapng’etuny Location, Chesumei, when his health deteriorated rapidly.
Andrew Tuimur, the deceased’s brother, recounted the harrowing moments to local authorities. He noted that the officer suddenly fell unconscious, prompting a frantic dash by family members to save his life.
Despite being rushed to the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, medical interventions came too late. Doctors at the facility pronounced the AIG dead on arrival. Police officers who visited the hospital shortly after have recorded the incident, though they emphasized that no immediate cause of death has been established.
At the time of his death, Tuimur was serving at Vigilance House, the headquarters of the Kenya Police Service. However, his tenure in the service was not without turbulence. He was among the senior officers who faced the intense scrutiny of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) vetting panels in previous years.
The body has been moved to the Samaritan Farewell Home. Family members and colleagues now await a post-mortem examination, which is expected to shed light on whether the collapse was due to a natural medical event or other underlying factors.
As the National Police Service prepares to mourn one of its senior leaders, the focus shifts to the autopsy results to provide closure to a family and a force caught off guard by this sudden loss.
