Firebrand MP alleges ODM top brass have been compromised by the government, dismissing their opposition rallies as a political charade.
The rift within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has widened into a chasm, with Mumias East MP Peter Salasya launching a scathing attack on his party superiors. Explaining his conspicuous absence from the high-profile Busia rally, Salasya did not mince his words, alleging that Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and other senior figures are merely "working for Ruto." The MP’s explosive claims suggest that the opposition’s roar has been silenced by handshake deals done in the dark.
Salasya’s theory posits a grand conspiracy where the fierce verbal sparring between ODM leaders and the Kenya Kwanza government is nothing but theatre. "Both the Sifuna faction and the Oburu Odinga wing are working for one person," he asserted. By painting the party leadership as compromised, Salasya is positioning himself as the last man standing for the true opposition—a risky strategy that could see him disciplined by the party’s disciplinary committee.
Referencing his self-styled "sharp boy" moniker, Salasya insisted that he is too clever to be used to legitimize a compromised leadership. His stance resonates with a segment of the youth who feel betrayed by the political class's constant realignments.
As the dust settles on the Busia rally, the question is no longer about who attended, but who is truly in charge of ODM. If Salasya’s allegations hold water, the opposition party is facing an existential crisis that could redefine the 2027 political landscape.
