Nairobi, Kenya – Leading Kenyan mobile operator Safaricom announced on Monday a significant acceleration of its 5G network rollout, with a strategic focus on extending coverage to rural regions across the country. This initiative aims to bridge the existing digital divide by bringing high-speed internet connectivity to previously underserved communities.

Expanding Connectivity

New 5G base stations are planned for installation in several counties, including Kisii, Baringo, and Kwale, among others. The company stated that this expansion follows successful and extensive urban trials of its 5G technology and forms a core part of a broader strategy to boost national connectivity and digital inclusion. Local business leaders and community representatives have welcomed the move, noting that access to faster and more reliable internet will be transformative for rural areas, enabling growth in e-commerce, facilitating remote education opportunities, and improving access to online government services.
