NATO’s chief issues a rallying cry for Kyiv, insisting that Russian aggression has only forged an unbreakable resolve within the Ukrainian people.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has delivered a stinging rebuke to the Kremlin, declaring that while Vladimir Putin seeks to shatter the will of the Ukrainian people, his brutal campaign has only succeeded in cementing their resolve.
Speaking against the backdrop of intensifying Russian assaults, Rutte’s assertion underscores the West’s assessment that the psychological war for Ukraine is already lost by Moscow, even as the physical battle for territory grinds on with deadly ferocity. "Putin is trying to break them," Rutte told reporters in Brussels. "But he fails to understand that freedom is a force more powerful than any missile. They will not be broken."
Rutte highlighted the resilience of Ukrainian civilians who have endured another harsh winter of blackouts and bombardments. He contrasted their morale with the "hollow motivation" of Russian conscripts. "You can destroy a power grid, but you cannot destroy the desire of a people to be free," he said. His comments came as NATO pledged to accelerate the delivery of air defense systems to Kyiv.
Analysts view Rutte's strong language as a signal to both Moscow and Washington that Europe's commitment remains unshaken despite political headwinds. By framing the conflict as a battle of wills, Rutte is elevating the stakes beyond mere territory.
"The history of this war will be written not by the aggressor, but by the defenders," Rutte concluded. As the war enters a new, critical phase, NATO's message is clear: the West's support for Ukraine is ironclad, and Putin's strategy of terror has hit a wall of Ukrainian steel.
