During his Nyanza tour on May 29, President Ruto launched the Lake Victoria Point affordable housing project in Kisumu alongside Raila Odinga and initiated tarmacking of the Marindi–Oria bridge road in Homa Bay, emphasizing regional development ahead of Madaraka Day.
Kisumu/Homa Bay, Kenya – President William Ruto continued his regional development tour across Nyanza on May 29, marked by the launch of Kisumu’s Lake Victoria Point affordable housing project and the official commencement of significant road upgrades in the neighboring Homa Bay County.
In Kisumu, President Ruto, joined by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, laid the foundation stone for the Lake Victoria Point development. This affordable housing scheme is designed to follow the successful model of the Makasembo project, aiming to provide quality, low-cost homes for residents. Later in the day, the President traveled to Homa Bay County, where he flagged off the tarmacking of the crucial Marindi–Oria bridge road. This road project is expected to significantly improve transportation links for local farmers and communities, facilitating easier access to markets and services.
President Ruto noted that these infrastructure projects are slated for completion ahead of Homa Bay County hosting the national Madaraka Day celebrations. He emphasized that the expanded housing initiatives in Kisumu and the new road networks in Homa Bay are integral parts of a broader government strategy to boost economic growth, enhance connectivity, and improve livelihoods throughout the Nyanza region. Governor Gladys Wanga of Homa Bay expressed her appreciation for the roadworks, highlighting their potential to reduce travel time and stimulate local trade. The projects were also framed within the context of joint development initiatives as the nation approaches the Madaraka Day holiday. President Ruto assured residents of Nyanza to expect “more such infrastructure improvements” as part of his administration’s ongoing national development agenda.
