Ruaraka 'A' and Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj 'B' have secured the 2025 Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NCCA) 50-Overs League titles in their respective divisions after a dramatic final week of matches.
Ruaraka 'A' clinched the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NCCA) Super League 50-Overs title for 2025, their second championship in three years. They secured the coveted trophy by defeating hosts Samaj 'A' by three wickets in a crucial final match, overtaking 2024 champions Kanbis 'A'. Samaj 'A' set a challenging target of 246 for 9 in their 50 overs. Despite a shaky start that saw key players, including captain Purshottam Vekariya, Satyalaksha Jain, and Neelakash Ravindra Tambe, dismissed for ducks, Ruaraka 'A' successfully chased down the total, scoring 247 for 7 in 46 overs.
Man-of-the-match Dashrath Chavan was instrumental in Ruaraka's chase, scoring 71 runs off 83 balls, supported by Harshin Varsani's 63 off 44 deliveries. Wicketkeeper Hitesh Varsani (40 runs) and former Kenya captain Morris Ouma (46 runs) also made vital contributions to the victory. Although Satyalaksha Jain missed the 1,000-run mark for the season, he finished as the league's top scorer with 862 runs at an impressive average of 95.78.
Ruaraka 'A' concluded their campaign with 48 points, four points ahead of Kanbis 'A', who secured second place after a three-wicket win against Kongonis 'A' in Eastleigh. Swamibapa 'A', who were strong contenders earlier in the season, finished third after a surprising four-wicket loss to Nairobi Gymkhana 'A'.
In Division One, Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj 'B' completed a remarkable season by winning the league title with an unbeaten streak of 13 matches. They sealed their championship with a seven-wicket victory over Swamibapa 'B'. Samaj 'B' now aims to finish the season without a single loss as they prepare to face Sir Ali 'B' at home.
The 2025 NCCA 50-Overs League season, which commenced in June, was marked by intense competition across both divisions. The Super League saw a three-way battle for the title involving Ruaraka 'A', Kanbis 'A', and Swamibapa 'A'. The absence of several key players due to national team duties in the Pearl of Africa Cricket Series in Entebbe, Uganda, presented challenges and opportunities for various teams throughout the season. The league's penultimate weekend was particularly decisive, with Ruaraka 'A' needing a win to secure the title outright and avoid a scenario where Net Run Rate would determine the champion.
The thrilling conclusion to the NCCA 50-Overs League has generated considerable interest within the Kenyan cricket community. The resilience shown by Ruaraka 'A' and the dominant performance of Samaj 'B' are expected to inspire upcoming talent and potentially influence future policy and investment in local cricket development. The league's ability to continue despite national team call-ups also highlights the depth of talent within Nairobi's clubs.
Cricket enthusiasts will be keen to see if Samaj 'B' can maintain their perfect record in their final Division One match against Sir Ali 'B'. Additionally, the performances of key players like Satyalaksha Jain, Dashrath Chavan, and Harshin Varsani will be closely watched as they represent the future of Kenyan cricket.
