NOCK launches a High-Performance Pathway Program for coaches, aiming to modernize training methods and use sports science to secure gold medals at the LA28 Olympics.

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) has launched a groundbreaking High-Performance Pathway Program, shifting focus from athletes to the "generals" of the sport—the coaches—in a bid to conquer the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
Recognizing that elite medals are forged by elite technical guidance, NOCK’s new initiative targets the scientific and tactical development of Kenyan coaches. The program, funded by Olympic Solidarity, aims to bridge the gap between raw Kenyan talent and the sophisticated, data-driven preparation of rival nations like the USA and China.
"We have relied on natural talent for too long," NOCK officials admitted during the launch in Nairobi. "The margin between gold and silver in LA28 will not be determined by who runs harder, but by who prepares smarter." The scholarship will send selected coaches to top sports science institutes globally and bring international experts to Kenya for intensive clinics.
The program focuses on disciplines where Kenya has struggled to convert potential into podium finishes, such as sprints, field events, and team sports like rugby and volleyball. It also includes a mandatory module on anti-doping education, aiming to sanitize the coaching ecosystem which has often been blamed for enabling the country's doping crisis.
The launch signals a departure from the "trial and error" approach of the past. By investing in the intellectual capital of sport, Kenya is attempting to future-proof its dominance on the track and expand its footprint in the arena.
As the countdown to Los Angeles begins, the message to the sporting fraternity is clear: The road to California runs through the classroom. The era of the "jua kali" coach is over; the era of the high-performance tactician has begun.
