Radio Africa Group and USIU-Africa have signed an MoU to provide internships and mentorships, bridging the gap between media studies and professional newsroom practice.

The gap between the classroom and the newsroom just got smaller. Radio Africa Group (RAG) and the United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to pipeline fresh talent directly into the media industry.
The agreement was formalized on Wednesday at the USIU campus, with RAG CEO Martin Khafafa and USIU officials putting pen to paper. The partnership addresses a critical industry complaint: that graduates often lack the practical, high-pressure skills required in a modern, digital-first newsroom.
"We are looking for the CNNs of tomorrow," said Khafafa. "This MoU allows us to tap into the energy and innovation of young people while giving them the platform of national brands like The Star, Kiss 100, and Classic 105."
Under the deal, USIU students will gain access to structured internships, mentorship programs, and executive training. The collaboration will also extend to joint research in emerging fields like data journalism and AI in media.
As the media landscape fragments, this academia-industry handshake could be the model for sustaining professional journalism in Kenya.
