Ngetich defends Sirikwa Classic title. Fans favourite Ngetich crossed the line at 32:28 as Mercy Chepkemoi came second.

In a Valentine’s Day masterclass at Lobo Village, Agnes Ngetich cements her status as the world’s premier cross-country runner, while a new star rises in the men’s category.
Eldoret, the City of Champions, lived up to its name this Valentine's Day as the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country Tour Gold served up a feast of athletic brilliance. But amidst the dust and the cheering home crowd, one name reigned supreme: Agnes Jebet Ngetich.
The world 10km record holder produced a display of ruthless efficiency to defend her Sirikwa Classic title, crossing the finish line in 32:28. It was a race that solidified her position as the undisputed queen of the surface. Running from the front, Ngetich destroyed a world-class field, leaving her compatriot Mercy Chepkemoi trailing over a minute behind (33:51). Catherine Reline Amanang'ole completed the podium, but all eyes were on Ngetich's effortless stride.
"Defending my title here in Eldoret is special," Ngetich said, breathless but beaming. "The fans pushed me. When you run at home, you don't just run with your legs; you run with your heart." Her victory is a critical confidence booster ahead of the upcoming track season, signaling that she is in peak condition to assault global medals.
While Ngetich's win was expected, the men's race delivered the drama. John Korir, the reigning Boston Marathon champion, stunned the favorites to take the men's 10km crown in 29:44. He outpaced Amos Kiprotich (29:46) in a sprint finish that had the crowd on its feet. The shock of the day was the performance of two-time champion Daniel Simiu Ebenyo, who faded badly to finish fifth, a victim of the brutal pace set by Korir.
The Sirikwa Classic has rapidly established itself as one of the premier meets on the World Athletics Cross Country Tour. The Lobo Village course, technical and unforgiving, provided a perfect test. As the athletes depart, the message to the world is clear: the road to global glory still runs through Eldoret.
