Government extends public service payroll deadline from the 15th to the 18th to ensure timely statutory deductions and block late submissions. Systems to auto-block late entries and HR directors held accountable.
Nairobi, Kenya – The Office of the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service announced a revision of the monthly payroll processing deadline for all public service entities. The cut-off has been extended from the 15th to the 18th of every month.
The directive covers all Ministries, Departments, Agencies, County Governments, State Corporations, and Constitutional Commissions.
Payroll submissions received after the 18th will be blocked and not processed.
The adjustment aims to enhance efficiency, ensuring timely remittance of statutory deductions—such as PAYE, NSSF, HELB, NITA, pensions, and Social Health Authority (SHA) contributions.
It ensures the National Treasury receives exchequer requisitions by the 20th of each month.
Payroll systems—the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS)—will be reconfigured to automatically block late submissions.
Directors of Human Resource Management will be held personally accountable for any delays.
The directive coincides with ongoing efforts to implement a new integrated payroll system to eliminate ghost workers and reduce duplicate payroll management across government levels.
