A manhunt is underway for Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi, who has reportedly gone into hiding after a video of a violent altercation went viral. The National Police Service has identified the MP as the primary suspect in the assault case and has urged him to surrender for questioning.

The Attack Unfolds on Camera

The widely circulated CCTV footage, dated Thursday, November 27, 2025, shows a man identified as 36-year-old Astariko Enock Omariba Moriasi seated at a restaurant in Kisii town. The video captures the MP entering the establishment, approaching Moriasi's table, and engaging in a heated verbal exchange before the confrontation turns violent.

The footage allegedly shows Kibagendi kicking Moriasi in the chest, grabbing him by the neck, and punching him to the floor. Staff and other patrons are seen rushing to intervene, and at one point, the MP appears to slap another customer who tried to de-escalate the situation.

Motive and Investigation

While the official investigation is ongoing, Moriasi has reportedly told police the dispute was personal. He filed a formal complaint at the Kisii Police Station on the day of the incident. Senior security officers in Kisii have confirmed that an active inquiry is in progress, emphasizing that the lawmaker should present himself to fast-track the investigation.

This incident is the latest in a series of public confrontations involving the MP. He was recently involved in heated exchanges in parliament with Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and clashed with a fellow MP at a funeral.
