24-year-old UDA aspirant Nehemiah Kipkirui Rotich cycles 400km from Cherangany to Nairobi to attend a party meeting, highlighting youth determination in politics.

In a feat of sheer grit and political ambition, 24-year-old Nehemiah Kipkirui Rotich has embarked on a punishing 400-kilometer bicycle journey from the hills of Cherangany to the concrete jungle of Nairobi, all to secure a seat at the table.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirant flagged off his journey from Chebororwa village in Trans Nzoia County, fueled by a singular mission: to attend the UDA Aspirants’ Forum in the capital. Lacking the fuel guzzlers and helicopters that define Kenyan political campaigns, Rotich is using muscle power to make a statement about youth determination and the hunger for leadership.
Rotich’s journey is not just a physical test but a symbolic one. "I want to show the party leadership that we young people are willing to go the extra mile," he told supporters before pedaling off. His route will take him through the steep ascents of the Rift Valley, battling the scorching January sun and the treacherous highway traffic.
As he navigates the highway, Rotich represents a new crop of Gen Z aspirants who are refusing to wait for the "leaders of tomorrow" slogan to materialize. His bicycle may be humble, but his arrival in Nairobi is guaranteed to turn heads in a parking lot full of Prados.
Whether he secures the ticket or not, Nehemiah Kipkirui Rotich has already won the first leg of the race: he has proven that he has the stamina to go the distance.
