Nyandarua County is mourning the loss of veteran MCA Beth Wahito, who was killed in a tragic car accident on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Saturday night. Wahito, who was returning from a budget meeting, was remembered by the Assembly Speaker and colleagues as a fierce advocate
Nyandarua County, Kenya – A wave of grief has swept across Nyandarua County and the broader Kenyan political landscape following the sudden death of Beth Wahito Njoroge, a seasoned nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA). Wahito, aged 59, died instantly on Saturday night when her vehicle was struck by a bus along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway.
The tragic accident occurred as Wahito was returning from a county budget committee meeting in Naivasha. According to preliminary reports, a Guardian Angel bus collided with her car at a highway intersection as she attempted to cross. The impact was fatal.
County Assembly Speaker Stephen Wachira Waiganjo confirmed the devastating news, describing Wahito as a “fearless leader and a tireless advocate” for marginalized communities.
“Her voice was firm, her conviction unshakable. Nyandarua has lost a true daughter of the soil,” he said.
Wahito’s death marks the end of a distinguished public service career spanning over 30 years. She held leadership positions in several political parties over the years, including the Democratic Party, NARC–Kenya, and most recently as the UDA coordinator for Kinangop Constituency. Her deep commitment to service earned her the admiration of both colleagues and constituents, with tributes pouring in from across Kenya’s political divide.
Wahito was known for her strong voice on issues of gender equity, rural development, and youth empowerment, often bridging political lines to champion community needs. Her contributions during committee sessions and in grassroots mobilization made her a respected figure in county governance.
Her wrecked vehicle has been towed to the Naivasha police station, where investigations into the crash are ongoing. Police say a full report will be released in the coming days.
As funeral preparations begin, many are remembering Wahito not just as a politician, but as a mentor, matriarch, and moral compass in Nyandarua’s evolving democratic journey.
