The newly-promoted, bottom-table side secured the season's biggest upset against 21-time champions Gor Mahia, a landmark victory for the team under the patronage of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

NAIROBI, KENYA – In a stunning turn of events in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League, newcomers APS Bomet delivered a seismic shock by thrashing league leaders Gor Mahia 4-1 at the Nyayo National Stadium on the evening of Tuesday, 25th November 2025. The result marks a significant upset for the star-studded Gor Mahia and a historic moment for the Bomet-based club, which is affiliated with the Administration Police Service.
The victory was lauded by the team's patron, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen. The CS was named patron of the club in June 2025 following their promotion from the National Super League and has previously pledged significant government support for the team.
Gor Mahia, the record 21-time league champions, initially appeared set for a routine victory after Ghanaian striker George Amonoo found the net just five minutes into the match. However, the league leaders failed to capitalize on their early advantage. APS Bomet, who entered the match second from the bottom of the table, mounted a remarkable comeback before halftime.
The turning point came in the 40th minute when forward Hansel Ochieng converted a penalty to level the score. Just three minutes later, Ochieng scored again, weaving through the Gor Mahia defence to give the underdogs a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
Despite Gor Mahia's coach, Charles Akonnor, making nine changes to his squad with an eye on the upcoming Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards, his second-half substitutions failed to reverse the tide. APS Bomet extended their lead in the 76th minute when a shot from Ochieng was deflected into the net by his teammate Philip Wasai. Ochieng capped his man-of-the-match performance by providing the assist for Rodgers Kipkemoi, who sealed the emphatic 4-1 victory in the 87th minute.
The defeat was Gor Mahia's worst in the league since a 3-0 loss to Posta Rangers in January 2022 and only their second loss of the current season. Despite the humbling result, Gor Mahia remained at the top of the league standings with 19 points after nine games, though their commanding lead has been checked.
For APS Bomet, the win is a massive morale booster, earning them only their second victory of the season and lifting them from 17th place out of the relegation zone with a new total of eight points. The club secured its place in the top-flight league for the 2025/2026 season after being awarded points from an abandoned National Super League match against Kibera Black Stars in a ruling by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee on 13th June 2025.
Speaking after the match, Gor Mahia's Ghanaian coach Charles Akonnor accepted full responsibility for the loss. "Today was a bad day. We did not do well in a lot of areas... I am responsible for that, and we look to make amends in our next match," Akonnor stated on Tuesday, as reported by Nation Media Group.
Gor Mahia's assistant captain, Mike Kibwage, issued an apology to the club's supporters. "We apologize for the poor results witnessed today, and we promise we will bounce back stronger against AFC Leopards on Saturday," he said.
