Nairobi University Students Protest Tuition Fee Hikes, Demand Government Intervention
Students at Kenyatta University in Nairobi held a significant protest on Monday, demanding a reversal of recent tuition fee increases and calling for increased financial support from the government.

Nairobi, Kenya – Hundreds of university students converged at Kenyatta University on Monday to stage a vocal protest against recent increases in tuition fees. The demonstrators, predominantly composed of undergraduate students from various faculties, voiced their strong opposition to the fee hikes and called for urgent government intervention to cap tuition costs at public universities. Additionally, the students demanded an increase in the availability of scholarships and bursaries for needy students who are struggling to afford higher education.
University Response and Student Demands
In response to the protests, Kenyatta University officials stated that they are currently reviewing the fee structures with the aim of balancing the institution's operational costs with the need for student affordability. However, the protesting students threatened to escalate their demonstrations if their concerns regarding the fee increments and financial aid are not adequately addressed by the university administration and the Ministry of Education. Following the demonstration, a student union leader was reportedly invited for talks with university administrators to discuss the grievances and explore potential solutions.
