Armed with Imitation Weapons, Four Men Arrested in Nairobi CBD After Public Tip-Off
NAIROBI, Kenya – June 4, 2025
A tense moment in Nairobi’s bustling Central Business District was swiftly defused on Tuesday after a public tip-off led police officers to arrest four men in possession of imitation firearms and suspicious weapons along Kenyatta Avenue.
The suspects were apprehended during a routine patrol by officers from the Nairobi Central Police Station, following reports from concerned citizens who noticed one of the men brandishing what appeared to be a gun in public, sparking fear and confusion among passersby.
Upon conducting a search, officers recovered a plastic revolver, six rubber bullets, and a knife uniquely inscribed with “AK47”. The group, described by authorities as visibly intoxicated, was taken into custody at the scene. Their vehicle—a black saloon car—was also impounded for forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
“The quick response was made possible by alert members of the public. We commend their vigilance and encourage continued cooperation with law enforcement,” a senior police official stated.
While the weapons were confirmed to be non-lethal replicas, authorities are treating the incident with utmost seriousness, citing the potential for public panic and misuse. Investigators are working to determine whether the men intended to use the imitation arms for criminal activity or were simply acting recklessly while under the influence.
The suspects are currently being held at Nairobi Central Police Station and are expected to face multiple charges, including possession of imitation weapons with intent to cause alarm and public nuisance.
Police have urged residents to remain alert and continue reporting suspicious behavior, reiterating that such tips are crucial to maintaining public safety in the city’s busiest commercial zones.
