Onyango & Tarus announces a private treaty sale for budget-conscious buyers, with the window for offers closing just before the Christmas holiday.

For Nairobians navigating a tight economy, the prospect of owning a vehicle for just over a quarter of a million shillings offers a rare glimmer of financial relief. In a market where vehicle prices have often trended upward, a new listing has sparked interest among bargain hunters across the capital.
Onyango & Tarus, a Nairobi-based firm, has opened the floor for a private treaty sale of 28 used motor vehicles. With reserve prices pegged as low as KSh 255,000, the sale presents a fleeting opportunity for buyers to secure mobility before the year turns.
Unlike the chaotic energy of a public auction where the highest shouter wins, this sale operates via private treaty. This mechanism allows potential buyers to submit sealed offers, often providing a more controlled environment for negotiation. However, the firm emphasized that the clock is ticking on these deals.
The auctioneers noted that the deadline for all offers is strictly set for 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. This places pressure on interested parties to act swiftly, particularly given the approaching holiday season.
While the entry price is attractive, prospective bidders must exercise due diligence. The firm explicitly stated that all 28 vehicles are being sold on an "As Is Where Is Basis."
For the uninitiated, this legal term is critical: it means the seller offers no warranties regarding the car's condition. Once the money changes hands, any mechanical faults, missing parts, or necessary repairs become the sole responsibility of the buyer. There is no recourse for refunds if the engine fails a mile down the road.
Analysts often advise that in such sales, the cost of a trusted mechanic's inspection should be factored into the total budget before placing a bid. With the deadline less than two weeks away, the window for inspection is narrowing.
