A group of Kenya Kwanza-allied MPs from the Mount Kenya region have condemned recent violent protests as politically instigated and called for thorough probes. They urged police to arrest not only the attackers but also those who organized and funded the unrest.
Naivasha, Kenya – July 17, 2025
A caucus of government-aligned Members of Parliament from Kenya’s Mount Kenya region has strongly condemned the recent wave of protests that turned violent, claiming lives and damaging property. Speaking during a press conference in Naivasha, the lawmakers accused unnamed political operatives of orchestrating the chaos for personal and political gain.
Led by Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, the group decried what they termed “reckless, selfish politics” that had resulted in arson, looting, and attacks on local businesses.
“Why would anyone incite the burning of enterprises that employ our youth and feed our families?” Kiarie questioned. “Such heinous sabotage only tears down our own house and future.” He added that the violence had worsened unemployment and created fear among potential investors in the region.
The MPs argued that the unrest was not a spontaneous reaction but a well-planned operation backed by external actors. They called for a comprehensive investigation to expose both the perpetrators and the financiers of the violence.
“We demand thorough investigations into the chaos,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement. “Those directly responsible for the violence must be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
In their remarks, the legislators affirmed their commitment to safeguarding stability and development in Mount Kenya, pledging to work closely with the national government. They further warned against what they called a “toxic political culture” that they believe is undermining national unity and economic progress.
The statement comes amid heightened political tensions following nationwide demonstrations, some of which have escalated into confrontations with law enforcement and destruction of public and private infrastructure.
