The new 3S facility in Tanzania’s commercial capital promises to slash downtime for thousands of three-wheeler operators, boosting the informal transport sector.

The streets of Dar es Salaam run on three wheels, and MeTL Bajaj is betting big on keeping them moving. The auto giant has inaugurated its fifth integrated "3S" (Sales, Service, and Spares) facility in the city, a strategic move aimed at capturing the lion's share of the booming commuter transport market.
Located in the bustling commercial capital, the new center is dedicated specifically to the Bajaj RE 4S—the ubiquitous yellow and green tuk-tuks that ferry millions of Tanzanians daily. The launch highlights the growing formalization of the informal transport sector in East Africa, a trend also visible in Kenya's boda boda economy.
For the operators, time is literally money. "Before, servicing the vehicle meant travelling long distances and losing valuable working hours," said Adam Nassoro, a Bajaj driver from Gongolamboto. "Now the service point is closer, which saves time and fuel."
MeTL Bajaj CEO Ashish Joshi described the three-wheelers as the "backbone of urban mobility." The facility is designed to address the operator's biggest headache: downtime. By providing genuine spares and quick diagnostics under one roof, the company hopes to build brand loyalty in a fiercely competitive market.
As Dar es Salaam expands, the reliance on last-mile connectivity provided by these three-wheelers will only grow. MeTL Bajaj’s investment is a signal that they intend to be the engine powering that growth.
