Nairobi, Kenya — September 27, 2025 (EAT). Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice President McDonald Marigahas called on fans to turn out in large numbers to support the national U20 women’s team, the Rising Starlets, as they face Ethiopia in a decisive FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifier on Sunday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
Speaking on Saturday, Mariga, a former Harambee Stars midfielder himself, urged Kenyans to rally behind the team, noting that fan support could make the difference in the high-stakes fixture.
“We need the 12th man. These young players have put in the work, and with your support from the stands, they can take a big step toward the World Cup,” Mariga said in an official FKF statement.
The Rising Starlets are vying for a historic first-ever U20 Women’s World Cup appearance.
The qualifiers have drawn top teams from across Africa, with Kenya hoping to break the dominance of traditional powerhouses like Nigeria and Ghana.
Sunday’s match follows a 1–1 draw in the first leg held in Addis Ababa earlier this month, leaving the tie finely balanced.
A win would move the Rising Starlets closer to the final qualification round and boost Kenya’s profile in women’s football.
The match comes amid growing investment in youth and women’s football programs by FKF and the Ministry of Sports.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 PM EAT at Ulinzi Sports Complex.
FKF has confirmed that entry for students and youth football academies will be free to encourage attendance.
Coach Mildred Cheche is expected to name a largely attacking lineup after an impressive showing in Addis Ababa.
The return leg winner will advance to face either South Africa or Zambia in the next round.
