The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has confirmed that it charges a mandatory KSh 1,000 processing fee for all inter-institution university transfer applications.
Nairobi, Kenya – July 18, 2025
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has issued a clarification regarding the KSh 1,000 fee for inter-institution transfer applications, stating that the charge is mandatory for all transfer requests, regardless of course similarity or institution.
The clarification follows public concerns from students and parents questioning why a fee was required even when a student sought to transfer within the same programme. In a statement released on July 15, KUCCPS explained that the fee is an essential processing charge, covering the administrative costs associated with coordinating and reviewing each transfer request.
All applications must be submitted via the official KUCCPS online portal, and the placement agency has strongly warned against engaging intermediaries or unauthorized agents who may attempt to charge additional fees.
“There are no hidden charges beyond the KSh 1,000,” KUCCPS emphasized. “We urge all applicants to use only the official platform and to remain vigilant against fraudsters.”
The 2025 transfer window opened on July 14 and will close on August 12. Students will be notified of the outcomes of their applications within approximately two weeks of submission. KUCCPS has confirmed that the window is open to students from both the 2023 and 2024 KCSE cohorts.
The agency reiterated its commitment to transparency and fairness in the placement process, reassuring students that each application will be evaluated based on merit and institutional capacity.
As university admissions intensify across the country, KUCCPS continues to play a central role in streamlining placements and offering guidance to students navigating the higher education system.
