KUTRRH Opens CEO Search, Seeks Visionary Leader to Steer Regional Health Hub
KISUMU, Kenya – June 4, 2025
The Kisumu University Teaching and Referral Hospital (KUTRRH) has officially launched the search for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), opening a high-stakes recruitment process aimed at finding a dynamic leader to guide one of Kenya’s most critical health institutions into its next phase of growth.
The hospital’s board of directors announced on Tuesday that the position is now open to applicants, with a submission deadline set for June 24.
According to the hospital’s vacancy notice, KUTRRH is seeking an accomplished professional with a proven track record in healthcare management, hospital administration, and public sector governance. The ideal candidate will be expected to bring not only technical competence but also a strategic vision capable of elevating the hospital’s role as a regional health powerhouse serving the wider Nyanza region and beyond.
“This is more than a management role—it’s a leadership mandate to transform healthcare delivery at one of Kenya’s flagship referral facilities,” a source close to the board noted.
The search comes in the wake of the recent expiry of the contract of the previous CEO, creating a leadership vacuum at a time when the hospital is undergoing major expansion and modernization initiatives.
KUTRRH has in recent years grown in stature, earning a reputation as a referral hub not just for Kisumu and Nyanza, but for neighboring counties. With state-of-the-art infrastructure and increasing specialization in advanced medical services, the hospital is poised for even greater impact—if guided by the right leadership.
The incoming CEO will be responsible for overseeing hospital operations, spearheading patient-centered innovations, strengthening public-private partnerships, and ensuring financial and institutional sustainability.
Health stakeholders across the country are closely watching the recruitment process, given KUTRRH’s strategic role in decongesting Nairobi’s national hospitals and enhancing access to high-quality care in western Kenya.
“This is a defining moment for the hospital. The leadership selected now will shape its trajectory for the next decade,” said a Kisumu-based health governance expert.
As the deadline draws near, attention turns to who will step up to lead KUTRRH into a new era of healthcare excellence, regional impact, and national relevance
