Kiambu County's New ERP System Boosts Revenue by Over KSh 1 Billion, Enhances Services

The Kiambu County Government has successfully implemented a comprehensive Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system across all its diverse service delivery departments, a transformative technological overhaul reported by the Kenya News Agency on May 14, 2025. This full-scale digitalization has reportedly yielded remarkable results, most notably leading to a significant increase in locally sourced revenue collection by over KSh 1 billion in the past fiscal year alone. This financial improvement demonstrates the tangible benefits of leveraging integrated technology for public administration.

The newly automated services under the ERP system are extensive, encompassing critical areas such as health services through a sophisticated Hospital Information Management System (HMIS), streamlined county revenue management and reporting processes, optimized resource management, efficient fleet management for county vehicles, modernized land management systems, and a digital module for processing development and building approvals, significantly reducing turnaround times. Looking ahead, the Kiambu County government also envisions establishing a dedicated Citizen Portal. This portal, similar in concept and functionality to the national e-Citizen platform, aims to provide residents with convenient online access to all county services once all modules of the ERP system are fully operational and integrated. The demonstrable success of Kiambu County's ERP system, particularly its profound impact on enhancing revenue collection and improving the efficiency of public service delivery, serves as a compelling and replicable model for other county governments across Kenya. This achievement is likely to accelerate the adoption of similar comprehensive digital solutions at the devolved level, paving the way for more efficient local governance, increased transparency, and markedly improved public service experiences for citizens nationwide.
