The Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts continued rainfall across several regions of the country in the coming week, with some areas also expecting daytime temperatures to reach 30 degrees Celsius.
Nairobi, Kenya – Kenyans across various parts of the country should prepare for continued rainfall in the coming week, the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) announced in its latest weather forecast. The advisory, covering the period from Tuesday, May 20, to Monday, May 26, 2025, indicates that wet conditions are expected to persist, though not uniformly across all regions.
According to the KMD update, several key regions will experience these extended showers. "Rainfall will persist in parts of the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, and Western and North-western Kenya," the department stated. This widespread rainfall suggests that citizens in these areas should take necessary precautions for potential disruptions to daily activities and travel.
Despite the anticipated downpours, the Met Department also noted that some areas could experience relatively high daytime temperatures, reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius. This juxtaposition of rain and warmth highlights the complex weather patterns currently affecting the nation.
Specifically for the capital, Nairobi, residents can expect mostly cloudy conditions throughout the forecast period. However, there will be occasional sunny intervals, offering brief respites from the overcast skies. Temperatures in Nairobi are predicted to range from a cool 15 degrees Celsius, likely during the nights and early mornings, to a moderate 25 degrees Celsius during the day.
The KMD urges the public to stay updated with their forecasts as the week progresses, as weather patterns can shift. The continued rains are typical for this period, often referred to as the "long rains" season, which plays a crucial role in agriculture and water reservoir replenishment, although it can also pose risks of flooding in vulnerable areas.
