Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania to Finalize CHAN 2025 Host Venues This Week
Nairobi Set to Host Key Planning Meeting for Joint Tournament
NAIROBI, Kenya, May 9, 2025 – The final list of host venues for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) is set to be determined this week in Nairobi, as sports officials from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania meet to finalize preparations for the continent’s premier home-based football tournament.
CAF Delegation to Confirm Stadiums and Cities
According to organizers, the meeting will bring together representatives from the three East African nations and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to inspect proposed venues, assess infrastructure readiness, and decide on cities and stadiums that will stage the event, scheduled for August 2025.
CAF had officially named Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania as joint CHAN 2025 co-hosts in 2023 — marking the first time the tournament will be held across three countries.
Race to Meet Infrastructure and Logistical Requirements
The decision on venues comes amid tight timelines and ongoing efforts to upgrade stadia, training facilities, accommodation, and transport networks in the three partner nations. Local organizing committees have been under pressure to meet CAF standards ahead of the final announcement.
Expected Host Cities
While final decisions will be made this week, cities such as Nairobi, Kampala, and Dar es Salaam are expected to be front-runners to host marquee matches, including the opening ceremony and final. Other possible host cities under consideration include Eldoret, Mwanza, Mbarara, and Kisumu, depending on stadium preparedness.
CHAN 2025 to Boost Regional Cooperation and Tourism
The 2025 CHAN is seen as a historic opportunity for East Africa to showcase its capacity to host major continental events, strengthen regional cooperation, and promote sports tourism.
“This is more than football. It’s about partnership, visibility, and legacy. The whole region stands to benefit,” said a CAF official familiar with the planning.
