Nairobi, Kenya – September 2025. President William Ruto has urged Kenyans, sports officials, and private partners to unite in transforming the country into a continental sports powerhouse, as preparations intensify for Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania’s joint hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a meeting with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) leaders and corporate stakeholders, Ruto emphasized that Kenya must build world-class sports infrastructure and provide strong athlete support systems to elevate its performance internationally.
On ambition: “We are in the wrong league as a country. Kenya belongs in a higher league, and we must get there,” Ruto said, calling for bold reforms.
On resources: He dismissed funding excuses, noting Kenya has sufficient resources if used effectively.
On collaboration: “This is not just an FKF plan – it must be our plan as government, federation, and private sector together,” he added.
Infrastructure upgrades: Plans include building modern stadiums and youth academies nationwide.
Public-private partnerships: Corporates invited to fund training programs, sponsorships, and events.
Policy alignment: Sports Ministry tasked with delivering a comprehensive sports development roadmap.
