Kenya Power scheduled a maintenance outage for May 26, affecting parts of Nairobi (including Kangemi, Kabete, Dandora), Nandi, and Nyeri counties from 8am to 5pm, advising residents to prepare for the interruptions.
Nairobi, Kenya – May 23 — Kenya Power has announced a scheduled electricity outage set for Monday, May 26, affecting various parts of Nairobi, Nandi, and Nyeri counties. The planned interruption, which will run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, is part of the utility’s ongoing national grid maintenance program aimed at enhancing power reliability and long-term service stability.
In Nairobi, affected areas will include Kangemi, Kabete, and Dandora, with additional locations in Nandi and Nyeri also set to experience temporary power loss. Kenya Power issued a public notice advising residents and businesses in the affected zones to prepare accordingly and take necessary safety measures.
The utility company explained that the outage is necessary to facilitate the upgrading of critical infrastructure, including the replacement and servicing of transformers, substations, and transmission lines. Some key institutions and public facilities may also experience short-term interruptions during the maintenance period.
“Customers are advised to unplug electrical appliances during the outage as a precaution against possible power surges when electricity is restored,” the notice read.
Kenya Power assured the public that electricity supply is expected to resume by evening, barring unforeseen delays. Officials emphasized that such planned outages are routine and essential to improving the efficiency and safety of the national power grid.
The company has encouraged customers to follow its official communication channels for real-time updates and to report any prolonged disruptions beyond the scheduled timeframe.
